Description
The Kapro 325M Magnetic Lock Combination Square is used for verifying 90- and 45-degree angles in woodworking, stonemasonry, and metalworking applications. The magnetic lock with six rare-earth magnets holds the rule in place for accurate measurements. The 12-inch rule has etched graduations in inches and centimeters that are staggered in a height pattern for readability. The square is made of stainless steel and cast zinc for durability. It comes with a belt holster and a stainless steel scribe that is attached to the head by magnets.Kapro manufactures spirit levels, laser levels, layout tools, and measuring tools. The company, founded in Israel in 1974, meets International Organization of Standardization (ISO) standards 9001, 14001, and SA8000.What's in the Box?Kapro 325M Magnetic Lock Combination SquareScribeBelt Holster

The magnetic tension on this is fantastic... It's very strong without being overly difficult to adjust, and absolutely zero play in any direction. The body of the combo square also appeared to have appropriately-flat edges when compared to one of my Woodpeckers tools. However, the ruler itself is drastically out of sorts, as one end is much wider than the other, and the edge of the ruler itself is anything but square. This unfortunately makes the whole thing useless, but if you can find a trustworthy ferrous ruler to fill its place then it can still be a good, unique combo square. It's really too bad, too, because the markings on the ruler are really nice and clear (better than my Woodpeckers), and accurate. The first two images are from opposite ends of the ruler, and the next two images are those ends compared to the Woodpeckers ruler (it should be clear which one is which). Unfortunately, the Woodpeckers ruler isn't attracted to the magnets, so now the search for a ferrous precision ruler begins.I like the concept of the magnetic holder but it's not without issues. It's super easy to adjust and seems to be square. My complaint is when using it to scribe a line (ie. Sliding it while holding a pencil on the edge) I have found that it slips slightly because of the pressure from the pencil, making my line angled. The other complaint is along the same lines; when using it to check squareness of a blade, such as a table saw, I like to adjust the square from the miter slot to the fence and slide the square along the edge of the miter slot. When using this type of square for that, the ruler will push in (slide in) if the fence is out of sqaure towards the miter slot, making it hard to tell if the fence is square or not without really keeping an eye on it vs measurement markings. All in all, for the price, it's a pretty neat tool. I use it often and would recommend it as long as the caveats are known. The only negative point is the method of holding the scribe in place: it is held by the main magnet but it tends to fall out and it will probably get lost pretty soon. besides this, the device is very practical and accurate.Update: I recently saw in a store a newer version, where the scribe holder is now much more secure and thus should not fall out. So when you buy look out for the newer model. My only complaint is that when you use this square against a surface, you have to make sure that the magnetic ruler has not been shifted. It moves rather easily and when you are holding it against something it can be easy to shift it out of square - something to keep an eye on. Other than that, it is quality and I use it all the time as my go-to square on my projectsI like the magnetic rule and scribe. I couldn’t give this high marks because the rule was bent thereby throwing off the purpose of checking for square.I’m not sure what to do with the little pouch. It seems like they just threw this in just because. It doesn’t fit any kind of way but I managed to get the square in but the ruler has no where to go.Love this thing, feels nice and tight, easy to adjust without fumbling with a turn screw.Very easy to adjust and clear ruler markingNice square. Main issue is that the scribe is just held in place with the magnet, and not very well. There is no positive attachment for the scribe. Easy to lose. I removed it and put it in my toolbox.Unfortunately, the tool comes not in a 90-degree angle, its first and most important purpose. I did not even care about the 45 angle then.I would absolutely like the tool if it would be just precise. The magnets work well and you deliver just the right resistance. It is also easy to read and has both metric and imperial. I read the other reviews, but could not come up with a fix. Have to return. This was hard to get, but well worth-it. The magnet is plenty strong. Can't wait to work on a project with it. No more knob hard to turn or fiddling with the mechanism when you need to switch the ruler. Also, I was delighted to see that the ruler was graduated in both imperial and metric (2 imperial, not just one imperial graduation as shown by this article's images...).Love this, I kept loosing the springs so a solution to that , this saves me a lot of time I can pull it apart easily for different applications. I use it for a measure tool. If your wanting an immovable setting get a regular combination square. I scribe with it no problem the magnets are seriously strong, but it easily adjusts. It squared up nicely too but you need to take care of it. No dropping. That kills the magnet.Great idea if it was machined well. The steel rule is well etched with accurate markings, and the magnetic connection with the head seems to work well - easy to adjust but grips enough for use.. BUT the rule is not machined straight and true. When registered against both a true-ground cast iron table, and against a very accurate Staedtler straight edge, the Kapro rule is not straight. Makes the tool useless for accurate marking. Disappointing!
